I am privileged to announce that India will host the 2nd Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress and the 18th Asia Quality Symposium (AQS) from 16 - 19 August 2004. The theme for the Congress is "Quality for the Prosperity of Asia". This unique event will bring together quality professionals from a large number of Asian regions, including Japan, China, Korea, ASEAN, South Asia and the Middle East. Prof. Kano, Prof. Kume and other global giants in the field of Quality Management, will share their experiences of how Asia has emerged as a major global source of competitively priced quality products. Over 120 papers are scheduled to be presented at the Congress. We collectively believe that Asia will prevail and improve the quality of life of its people while living in harmony with the rest of the world. The Government of India has recognized his contribution to Indian industry with the high civilian honours of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. He has been the Chairman & Managing Director of three of the most prominent public sector companies viz. Maruti Udyog, Steel Authority of India and Bharat Heavy Electricals. During his tenure as Chairman of Maruti he was instrumental in launching a change in the quality culture of India. He was also Member, Planning Commission, a rare honour for a technocrat.
