Founded in 1948, Ashok Leyland started manufacture of
commercial vehicles in 1955, with technology from and equity
participation by, Leyland Motors Ltd., UK. With its own R&D base,
strengthened by collaborations with international automotive leaders,
Ashok Leyland has established a tradition of technological leadership
and a strong reputation for product reliability. |
With plants at Ennore and Hosur (Tamilnadu), Alwar (Rajasthan), Bhandara
(Maharashtra) and Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Ashok Leyland is the
second largest maker of commercial vehicles and diesel engines in India.
From 7.5T GVW to 125 T GTW for goods transport, and from 28 seaters to
90 seaters for passenger transport, they constitute the largest range of
commercial vehicles. For over 30 years, Ashok Leyland has remained a
pioneer in the design, development and manufacture of special vehicles
for the Armed Forces.
In 1987, the principal overseas shareholding of the Company was taken
over by the Hinduja Group along with IVECO. A recognised export house
since 1978, Ashok Leyland exports to over 40 countries.
Ashok Leyland is the first automotive manufacturer in India to receive
the ISO 9002 certification in 1993. ISO 9001 certification came in 1994
and QS 9000 in 1998. All the vehicle manufacturing Units of Ashok
Leyland are ISO 14001 certified.
